Thoughts on Parallel

Parallel is a thought provoking movie that was either trying to create a story of parallel universes and how it affects a couple or an allegory about mistrust and dark desires in a relationship. It is a fine movie to catch though I felt the sound editing to be jarring at times. The soundtrack will sometimes be too loud for the dialogue. Every thing about it is satisfying at least and it is an entertaining anf original movie.

Questions about Justice League

After watching the Justice League movie I have a few questions:
-Spoilers below-

1. Why introduce the Green Lantern corp during the flashback battle only to have nothing come of it?
2. Is no one alarmed by Clark Kent being alive again?
3. Why does Clark Kent need a moving company?
4. Did nobody notice what was happening in the country being terraformed?
5. Isn’t the idea of an alien terraforming a planet to be like their planet the villain’s plan in Man of Steel?
6. Why does Superman’s death make the world lose hope? The world seemed to hate him in Batman v. Superman.

7. Why do the characters say names that would reveal their secret identities within earshot of civilians?

Thoughts on Justice League

Justice League is a mess. The dialogue is cliche, the plot is rushed, and the characters are not developed. Wonder Woman is still charming as she was in her solo film. Superman solves every problem without mussing his hair. The story is not compelling and in the end it comes off boring. There should have been a Green Lantern. They showed the corp during a battle so it would have made sense. It is a painfully desperate attempt to copy Marvel and it falls on it’s face.

Thoughts on The Dark Tower

The Dark Tower is a mess. If you are a fan of the books you will be disappointed and if you aren’t a fan then it will be a confusing movie. While a few action scenes are fun most of the shots are in the dark to obfuscate the crappy CG effects. As a whole the movie isn’t awful but it is forgettable and a piss poor example of Stephen King’s epic series.

Thoughts on Cult of Chucky and 1922

1922 is a pretty fantastic movie. It has really solid acting, creepy atmosphere, and a dark and depressing story. It does a great job setting up a “Telltale Heart” style of story which has a great payoff. I would have preferred it not be so depressing but the events all move the story in a brisk pace toward a satisfying conclusion. Check it out if you can.

Cult of Chucky is a Child’s Play sequel that is too bizarre to believe it would ever get made. The acting is good and the cinematography is very well-done. The story is a mess though. It might have been better if the ending didn’t seem to attempt sequel bait a sadly pathetic conclusion. If you’re a fan of the franchise, check it out. Otherwise, it is nothing that will be remembered.

Recently Seen Movies on Netflix

I had some time to catch a couple of movies on Netflix recently one was Belief: The Possesion of Janet Moses and The Babysitter. Belief: The Possesion of Janet Moses was a very well-made, tragic story of Janet Moses who died during an exorcism in New Zealand. The story presenta itself to the viewer with interviews and facts and leaves it up for the audience  to decide if the outcome was justified. It was fair and seemed to be unbiased which I enjoyed immensely since many documentaries seem to have a distinct agenda. It is a movie that is absolutely  worth seeing.

The Babysitter is really disappointing. On paper it seems like a fun and original movie. It squanders the idea and churns out a ridiculously simple movie that is poorly executed. Not that it is without entertainment value. There are a few good jokes and over-the-top gore. When it comes to comedic horror this movie falls flat. The scares and joke are predictable and do not add to the experience. The story as a whe is pretty forgettable and the attempts at sentimentality are oddly out of place given the tone of the rest of the movie. It is an empty promise movie that doesn’t deliver and is pretty easy to forget.

Thoughts on Miniscule: Valley of the Lost Ants

Miniscule: Valley of the Lost Ants is a fantastic movie featuring beautiful photographs and adorable animation. It tells the sorry of a ladybug befriending ants and helping them repel attacks from another ant colony. The story is told without talking and really utilizes the art of cinema. The only words we hear are from the breif narration in the beginning. Through movement and sound effects a lovely story unfolds. It is a great movie that more people should see.

Thoughts on The Belko Experiment

The Belko Experiment is takes the premise of Battle Royal in an Office Space setting. The story is by James Gunn and has a lot of wry wit. The cast is full of very solid character actors so you never really know who will die. It is entertaining and it is played seriously which makes it all the more creepy. The kills are brutal and over the top so horror and gore-fans will enjoy it. The acting is good and the movie is on the fun side of the fine line that it manages to be sincere in it’s schlock.

Thoughts on Cars 3

If the first Cars film was a copy of Doc HollywoodCars 3 feels like Rocky 3. It is a better film than Cars 2 and the animation is better. The story itself is pretty good but a lot of the characters have taken a backseat to the central plot. It works and is an entertaining chapter that deals with getting older. Check it out if you like the other movies.

Thoughts on The Monster

The Monster is a damn good movie. The acting is fantastic and the scares are all well-shot with compelling and developed characters to move the story along. It reminds me of Train to Busan. It had elements of a flawed parent redeeming themselves gor their children. Fighting off the demons that have kept them estranged. The monster looks authentic and creepy. Even as a metaphor this story is smart and entertaining. See it if you can.

Thoughts on Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is a fun, colorful movie that is a fun ride. Cate Blanchett is really cool and Jeff Goldblum is hilarious. I would argue that thia movie does superhero humor right in the stule of Guardians of the Galaxy. The tone is very comedic but it works. It is an entertaining movie thst is a welcome addition to the MCU.
