Thoughts on Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein

Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein tells the story of Frankenstein in the same way Tim Burton did Sleepy Hollow. Guillermo Del Toro created a very unique aesthetic for the sets and the costumes. The story takes a firm departure from the book, but it works in terms of vilifying Victor and wallowing in the creature’s tragedy. I personally was not a fan of how over-the-top the violence was. I never considered that the creature would have super human strength. It was still entertaining and worth checking out.

Thoughts on The Dead Don’t Die

The Dead Don’t Die is a comedic horror movie from director, Jim Jarmusch. The dialogue is witty and delivered with dry pathos. The actors all seem to be enjoying the absurd nature of the humor. I enjoyed its humorous nilhilism.

Thoughts on Nosferatu

Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 silent film. It’s pretty and stylized to look like a bygone era. For the most part, much like the original film, the movie basically is the story of Dracula with some names changed and slight plot details altered. It still works as a solid vampire film. Check it out if you dig gothic horror.

Thoughts in Talk to Me

Talk to me is an Australian horror movie. The story is similar to many other horror movies in the genre. It does feature some creepy moments and disturbing imagery without coming off the gratuitous. The ending is clever and makes the film stand out. All-in-all a solid movie with a tight run time that will entertain most horror fans.

Thoughts on Happy Gilmore 2

Happy Gilmore 2 is the sequel to the Adam Sandler comedy film of the 90s. At times there are jokes that land but most of it felt pandering for easy laughs. It is not awful but it is the sort of mediocre netflix swill that i’ll likely forget about soon. Watch it, or don’t. It is not likely to be on anyone’s favorite movie list.

Thoughts on Sinners

Sinners is a great movie. The story is solid and the characters are well-developed. The horror elements build up to an exciting crescendo. It has elements of movies like From Dusk ‘till Dawn but with classy layered themes that give the movie a lot more depth. It is a great addition to vampire horror.

Thoughts on A Minecraft Movie

A Minecraft Movie is a movie based off the hit game. The characters are all fine and the movie itself seems very formulaic. It isn’t bad, but it also isn’t anything bold or new. I am not the audience for this as my experience with Minecraft is fairly limited. My kids loved it though and they play Minecraft. So take from that what you will.
